First off, I got excited at the prospect of working on my computers again, since I was able to pull a day off from work today. I ordered some RAMs (in fact, one is still in the post office and I just couldn't find the time to claim it yet) but the other RAMs I ordered were only applicable to the Compaq machine I got. In effect, my Compaq got a 3Gigabytes RAM overnight. This morning I tried to work again on my Ubuntu, trying to have my Belkin wireless work without success. After spending a few hours in WPB, I proceeded to Northlake branch of CompUSA and bought a USB wireless. I immediately tried to set it up to no avail. I eventually changed my approach by bringing my new Ubuntu OS upstairs for direct wire updating. Lo and behold, the driver for my Belkin wireless was immediately downloaded by the system. In effect, I did not really need that USB (but I'm gonna keep it since I might need it when I assemble a new computer someday). By two pm, everything is perfect. And man was I tired. It's nice to return to my old hobby. Oh, I also set up my LAMP in my Windows 2000. It has a new name, something with X----, oh I can't remember anymore but to you guys who worked on this, thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I can start playing with websites, databases, php, apache, mysql again. I'm signing off. |

Pardon the clutter and disorganization. I am starting this site for the computer stuff I am currently working on. I have been busy lately upgrading my OS and my computer hardwares. I am getting back to linux and playing with its features, so bear with me as I sort out my excitement and sometimes stupid trials and errors. Two days ago, I got bugged by upgrading my RAMs, and since I bought the DDR2 RAMs, I realized only my Compaq desktop can take them. So, now I have a Compaq with 3.11 Gigabytes of RAM while the other, which is my self-assembled remains at 725 MB. I know there is an easy way of figuring this out and since my days off are so few, I will work on this as allowed. Meanwhile, drop me a line if you have anything to say. No advertisements please. Outside of my RAM-craze phase, I have returned to Linux (Ubuntu) and right now, I am working on wireless networking. I am starting with one thing I found out -- no Broadcom. Every Linux forum I read recommends Atheros and Prism based chips. I might visit some stores for these USBs or PCIs. I also want to find out my RAM for my old self assembled computer. I have the feeling its below 400 pins or whatever you call them. |
